We had a great day and a great group of people on the 40's Only Run today. Thanks everyone who made it out! Those of you who couldn't make it missed a fun day of wheeling. I'm tired! :) :thumb:

We had three vapor locked rigs, one stuck rig, lots of nearly tipping into trees, one busted exhaust pipe, and a whole bunch of fun.

We Ran Red Elephant Hill and the Mill Creek Loop, then down the lower section of Bill Moore without going to the lake. It was pretty busy with traffic on Bill Moore and most of our kidneys had had enough of a workout from the other two trails. (and our :Princess: were wondering where the heck we were) ;) Started at 8, we were off the trails by about 4 and into the I-70 traffic fun.

We ran into Uncle Ben who was getting his cruiser fix on the Bill Moore trail upon his return from Down Under. Welcome back to the states Dude! Get that 40 running. :D

(Note: Subzali traded in his FJ40 for an Xterra and harassed some of us on I-70 on the way to the meeting place as he passed us at high speed with his girlfriend on their way to the hills) ;)

I'm awful with names, so I can't recall everyone who was in attendance. :o

We had Myself, Matt and Charlie in the Hulk with Jeff and his son too, Max and his dad and bros, Kirk who was giving his new engine a shake-down run (did I spell your name right dude? sorry if I didn't), and Bill with his dad and daughter. Bill was up from Texas visiting his dad and doing some wheeling in their big yellow 40 which had some pretty cool family history.

Hope you guys can all post up some pics and comments about the day.

I didn't get a chance to take many pics, but here's a few:

Meet-up at the BK in Downieville (Bills rig makes all ours look small :) )

I promptly vapor-locked, then got stuck in the sand in the tippy section up Red Elephant. No pics of the rescue, but hopefully someone will post up.

Vapor lock and unstuck, we got the group heading up the hill. 40 colors are cool.

Hey guys, I was bummed I wasn't able to go today, but it was fun seeing a couple of you on I-70 as we went by! I was driving a friend's vehicle (the other three besides Jacki and I were in the back), not sure how I got stuck with driving  :D

I wish I could'a made it - still recovering from whatever bug whacked me over the last week. Looks like fun!

I know, I was really bummed but my day off comes around on Tuesdays this summer... and I was afraid the timing wouldn't work well for getting to commitments I had yesterday earlier in the afternoon, turns out I was correct.

Bummed to miss this one for sure, great pics Martin! Yeah, a blue and orange cruiser would have been nice... or even Subz's purple cruiser:bolt:

Here are some pictures from the run. My passenger Jeff (Mendocino) took many more, so hopefully he will post up some good ones.

Some of you may remember Bill Davidson from the BOWAGW run a few years ago. Great guy. Awesome Cruiser! At one point, a motorcyclist passed us, weaving in and around our trucks. He stopped in front of Bill's 40 and said, "That's a BIG one."

On the Mill Creek loop, we found an old cabin called the Empire Hilton. Bill said that they had run the same trail a few weeks back and met some folks staying there, who were "Straight from Deliverance." They said they had been coming up to the cabin and staying there since the 60s. The cabin is fully stocked with bedding, stove, food, etc., and anyone can stay there.

Thanks for posting the great photos Matt!

Note: No one was standing on tippy vehicles while moving. Just long enough to get straps on them. We were all clear (and pulling the strap) while the vehicles regained their footing. ;)

He He, that one was fun, you can see the line I should have took clearly to the left.

Great run, thank's so much for organizing it Martin!

I have a few bugs to work out.

I will try to get my pics up asap.

Thanks

I just have to say Max needs to get that tire off the roof, every time I see a tire on the roof of a Cherokee pile or a Grand Cherokee pile I point and laugh. :o

Good to see you driving though Max! :thumb:

I was glad to see you guys run RE Hill. You needed a little more challenge and it's such a fun trail and loop especially when you compare it to the traditional BM Lake trail.

Thanks guys!

Subzali, I actually like the placement of the tire there, out of the way, and doesnt rattle or make noise like stock carrier I had before, plus The ratchet I used to attach it only cost $8 as opposed to a built aftermarket tirecarrier which would cost me $800. :D

Anyways ill get lots of pictures up in about 45 minutes.

Great pics! Thanks for posting them up! Glad someone got a pic of the Red Elephant Tree. ;)

And, Thanks for the play-by-play on the gladly accepted strap!:o :D Pics don't do justice to how soft, and off camber that section is. I slid sideways further than I made forward progress in that stuff.

Man I wish I could have made this run. I tried to get my dad to take his 40 but he had to work. I split the Tcase from the tranny again so my 40 is out until I take the time to mill the adapter for bolts.

It's up along the flatter top section of the trail after we come through that grove of soft top eating aspen trees and before the turn off for Mill Creek. I mentioned it on the CB as I passed it, but my radio isn't working so great. :)

nice looking run fellas. I have to admit, since I broke up with the guy who gave me my FJ40, it's been really hard to get close to it without crying. These pics of the 40s out on a trail fills me with the happiness and respect I initially had for my FJ. I'm working on it this weekend!

Wow, I didn't know about the red elephant in the tree! That is so cool!

Max, I'm just joshing ya - a bit ;) That's cool that you put FJ60 axles under your truck too - that's gotta help the stability quite a bit so :thumb: to you!

Sheba - we have a lot going on this weekend and it would be one of the few weekends you shouldn't be working on your 40. Saturday is the Rising Sun Rally, and Sunday we have trail runs. I'll be happy to give you a seat with me on Bill Moore!

Sheba-take Jeff's offer for the seat; it'll be great.

Personally I have a family engagement on Saturday and have to travel on Sunday or I would be at the rally and on the Sunday runs.

Looks awesome fellas, I am so bummer to have missed it! What a treat to see so many 40's on the trail. In Moab this year, I was the ONLY 40 on all three of my runs with the event.
Nice to see so many doing what they do so well.

Saturday sounds great! I can't go to Bill Moore though because I have a senior portrait session that day in downtown Denver. I need to read back over all the posts to see when and where for Saturday and thank you for the invite. I seriously need to get out of my house. I feel like I've been hiding out.

Does anyone have Bills email still? ( the guy with the big yellow 40)

He gave me his buisness card but it flew out my shirt pocket on the way home from wheeling. Completely forgot about it until now.

Thanks!
