I"m getting ready to put the fairlead on my 80 tonight. I have an ARB front bumper. Here's my question. Does it need to be ALL the way up against the "fairlead support" on the ARB or can it have a small gap?

The fairlead I got from my friend is a milemarker and has a lower hole already there, leaving like a 1/8"~ gap til it makes contact with the upper. Is that good or does it need to be snug?

TIA!

Big washer(s) on top to fill the gap??

I would say it should be snug. So, either a washer or two on the top of the fairlead to fill the gap or maybe drill out the fairlead hole a little bit to allow it to move up the 1/8". As you've probably read everyone says (including ARB) to NOT drill the bumper itself.

I stole a picture from a thread on MUD. When I put my fairlead on I drilled 2 new holes in my fairlead, NOT MY BUMPER. This allows you to put the long bolts on the side rollers through the bumper, as seen in the pictures. Take the bolts out of the side rollers, and put the bolts through the bumper, and the side rollers. Press the fairlead up against the bumper and mark where the holes need to be from behind the bumper. Take fairlead off and drill holes. I hope that helps. http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/124670-real-time-arb-bull-bar-80-roller-fairlead-location-m12.html

I'm definitely not drilling. I read all the threads about mounting...but they don't say whether to push the fairlead all the way snug up or not.

I've never read one way or the other but every roller fairlead I have seen on an ARB has been snug at the top. Where are all those out there with roller fairleads on their ARBs?? I have a Hawse fairlead so I'm not much help other that I say put it snug to the top
