Speaking of which - what happened to KCUV? It's now airing as "Jack FM" or something like that - with KOSI 101 type music.

KYEN has been awesome! Hope the programming stays similar when they switch from reels to DJ's! Anybody remember when KBPI started up? The reel music was awesome!

Radio station off the air; new rock site to fill void

BY LISA MEHRING
For the Beacon

Out with the old, in with the new.

That is exactly what happened to one Severance radio station.

The radio station, 103.9 FM KYEN, Severance, vanished from the airways Feb. 26, just shy of its one-year anniversary, which would have been March 18.

But Severance listeners, listen up.

There is a new radio station in Windsor, Rock 102.9 FM.

"We just took over the same format (KYEN had) because people loved it," said Mark Callaghan, Regent Broadcasting's operations manager. "It's the same music, nonstop rock."

The new station will be play classic and alternative rock songs from the '70s, '80s and '90s, but without the use of deejays, promotions or commercials.

The new station first began streaming at midnight March 11.

"I think it's going to do great," Callaghan said. "KYEN was so successful with it that we thought this would be the best way to launch the station.

"We're just excited to add another great station to our already four stations," Callaghan said.

This is a great station, thank you! I too miss KCUV. KYEN is not the same, but it's exactly what I want to hear these days. I hope the truck radio pulls it in. The webstream works great tho.

I took it off the preset. I get crappy reception down here on 102.9. on 103.9 it used to be great all the way down here.

Bummer. I never heard 103.9 except out past DIA but the Krako cassette deck in my dash is probably from 1982 and is pretty much junk. The webstream is solid tho. And I got an encouraging note from the station's OM this morning:
Hi John-

Thanks for your email. At some point we will have to play commercials, but that won't be until July. The number of commercials we air will be very few! As of right now I have no plans to add DJ's and hype.... just lots of great Rock music.

Thanks for listening to the station. I welcome your feedback anytime.

Same here on the reception. Regarding the commercial, it could be you were picking up a station from Colorado Springs on the 103.9 freq.
