View Full Version : Mustaches For Kids

Greetings fellow Rising Sun Members. This year, I have taken on the challenge of starting the Mile High chapter of Mustaches for Kids. Click here (http://m4kdenver.wordpress.com/about-2/) to findout what it's all about. In short you basically grow a mustache (and only a mustache, no beards or goatees) for 4 weeks in an effort to raise awareness and $$$ for a children's charity. We have weekly checkpoints that include free :beer: at all the Breckenridge Brewery locations around Denver to admire one another's 'staches.

There are two ways to participate. Today is Shaving Day which means you must shave your entire face today, and for the next 4 week shave everything except your mustache. For complete rules check the rules page here (http://m4kdenver.wordpress.com/rules/). While growing your sweet 'stache be sure to use it as a talking point everywhere you go to get people to donate to our charity. Spam all of your friends and coworkers for contributions. It's all super easy to setup and totally tax deductable. Come to the kickoff party tonight (http://m4kdenver.wordpress.com/events/)or download the grower kit (http://m4kdenver.wordpress.com/2008/11/02/mustaches-for-kids-grower-fundraising-kit/)or email me at m4kdenver@gmail.com to get setup.

Our charity this year is DonorsChoose.org an awesome non-profit that provides funding directly to teacher requested projects right here in Denver. Most projects are for high poverty schools that can't afford even the most basic materials for learning. I've personally worked with them for a number of years and can tell you that after funding a small project and getting a package on my doorstep full of thank you cards from a classroom of 1st graders is the best feeling in the world. Now join me in growing a mustache for kids!

The second way to get involved is to donate to the cause. You can see my personal giving page here (http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/viewChallenge.html?id=19525&category=71&zone=422):

muchas gracias

I guess the economy has everyone in a pinch this year. $5 goes a long way for most of these projects:

I'll make a donation tonight.

If you do this again next year, I'd like to participate... however, the timing is poor with the early November start. Maybe it could be an October fund raiser? With both families coming in for Thanksgiving, I wasn't thrilled about being captured in a hundred family pictures with a half-baked stache. Even if it started a few weeks earlier, so the stache was fully grown, I probably would have been OK with it.

Hope it's going well!

you guys rawk! :beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

matt - having the 'stache over the holiday is the best part! the point is to make it the center of attention so people ask about it and you can talk them into giving money to impoverished schools. someone needs to make a mustache smilie

OK, I can see that. But it would be better if the stache was fully grown.
