OK, Stan's 1980 FJ40 came with a soft top...and I have no idea how this thing is installed...obviously there are some pieces missing. Anyone have this model I can come take a look at and see what I am missing? Thanks.

I can't tell what kind it is. Is it a Bestop?

Lokks a bit like the STC I had. STC has fully zip out windows Bestop does not. Could still be best top rails though.

Do you have rails for the bottom lip that goes around the tub?

I dont have one, just trying to help identify

no idea what brand...I will take a pic of the soft top this weekend. What you see in the pics is all I think I have.

Probably an old Kayline, which was the predecessor to STC.

Yeah, Stan mentioned STC...

The doors at least look like Bestop. They're just like the set I used to run:

i believe it is an old kayline top. besttops are usually adjusted differently on the rear hoop.

the bracket on the bottom will bolt onto the rail inside the tub (where your hardtop bolts would go on), it will have specific measurements as to how far back it bolts. you might be able to find it online, but if not, getting the entire top mounted might make it easy enough to figure out about where it goes. was the top ever installed on the rig before? if so, there may already be holes where the bracket mounts.

the big hoop is the main hoop, right behind the seats. the other hoop on the bracket will go diagonally up and towards the back of the rig.

i doubt there will be the rails that romer mentioned since judging by the doors, the top is an old style. there will probably be snaps. check the bottom edge of the vinyl top for those.

never had an old kayline or put one on, so not too sure on the other posts, but there has to be a post coming up from the posthole section at the b pillar and another piece going from the edge of the w/s back that the door will seal against.

also, make sure you have a channel that goes across the windshield otherwise all the rest is in vain.

checked my records and i've only got the install instructions for the newer kayline tops.

here's a link to the older bestop tigertop installation instructions to give you an idea of how everything might go together

ok, took the top inside last night to warm it up for pics and cleaning. It is actually a Bestop. I also found some more hardware. Hmm...wonder if the top is not for the hardware?? Ugh. Is this windshield channel fr the hardtop or softtop?

the tube brace things go in the hole just above the door latch.

the other piece is from the fiberglass top. goes between it and the w/s frame, not used with the softtop.
