View Full Version : 80 power steering hoses

There are two hoses on my 80 that appear to be leaking. There are behind the radiator near the battery. I think they are both hoses for the power steering. They both look like high pressure hoses with crimped fittings on the ends. Why would there be two high pressure hoses? The cooler is on the low pressure side of the circuit isn't it?

Should I replace them with OE hoses or is NAPA ok? Any special tips to doing the replacement? TIA

There is one Highpressure hose and a return Hose. The Highpressure can appear as two depending on how you look at it as it goes down almost the radiator and then is a metal loop before coming back to the Gear box.

Look closer it may be the pump

if it is the pump, do the hoses while you're there.

Ken, I not seeing the picture.

I was just digging through the electronic version of the shop manual. What a pain. I hate having to open a zillion different PDFs only to find there isn't an assembly picture tha actually shows the system layout and hose routing. I know its pretty simple - the pics I have looked at look oddly similar to an FJ60. I just need to actually open the hood and get busy - I hate working on cold trucks, especially when it involves greasy leaking hoses.

Do I need to talk to Jerry at Boulder Toyota to get the Rising Sun deal on parts? TIA

I just found Ken's faq on MUD. Very complete, just what I was looking for. Now I've got my fingers crossed that I don't need a pump as well.
