Hi All

I'd appreciate some feedback on a few questions I have about FJ80s

I have a 1997 80 right now (Which my wife gets to drive) but it doesn't have the locking differential. I've found a 1993 FJ80 that I like for me, which has the locking differential, but does not have the ABS option.

Here's my question: Does ABS help or hurt in offroad situations or when having to effect repairs in the field?

What options are must haves vs don't want?

My intent for this truck would be to lift it, larger tires and all that. What offroad capability would I be giving up to go wth a "platform" that didn't have ABS?

Thanks, LETSROLL

When you go into lo 4WD, the ABS is disabled so its not a factor offorad

None. Most of the hardcore guys disconnect it. As long as the 93 has a full floater rear, some had leftover semi-floaters from 1992. Some might say airbags and OBD II are good to have on the newer models. Some also like the MAF on the newer modeels as well.

What do you mean by full floater rear or semi floaters, or OBD II?
Is there a code on the Vin plate I should look for?

Look on IH8MUD for the newbie section and Sleeoffroad and looked at the FAQ for the 80 series. Both of these areas will answers lots of questions and then you will have some different questions to ask.
