I can't believe no one has flicked the spotlight on Zornff (Mike) yet for his incredible build on Mud (http://forum.ih8mud.com/hardcore-corner/269399-fj40-1-2-xtra-cab-build-long.html)! WOW! Takes guts to take a well working freshly finished Cruiser cut it in half and custom make a completely differant work of art!:bowdown::bowdown: Nicely done! :thumb::thumb:

Mike, Amazing fab! Very, very creative. I really like how you've matched the bed with traditional 40 lines. Gorgeous!

Kevin, that picture looks great! Nice work! Beautiful paint job!

:tongue2:

So does that mean that one would have to be at Cruise Moab to get a REAL view of the beast?

I for one am excited to see it...

And zornff's truck is sweet! Thanks for sharing that!

It's simple really, usually two parts water to one part rice. :D

Great build too!

Wow, Thanks for the comments. I was going to do this when i built it the first time, but got a bit overwhelmed after i removed the entire drive train, suspension, and most of the body. Heck, i barely made CM'07, And even then i was hooking up my Co2 to see if the lockers worked, in camp !
I really wanted an fj45 swb, but even at my height there is no room. So i figured i would make an x-cab soft top out of my 40. I was trying to make the Round up, but thats not going to happen.
Its been a hoot designing as i go, and fabbing stuff with limited fab skillz. Hoping to have the bed done by tomorrow night. Should be done by the end of March, I want to drive it around on my b-day. Later.

Hey Mike....Who did you use to make your top? Did you make a frame or us some factory parts? I have a Paki top for a 45 but do not want to use the factory frame stuff. i want a top that can come off quick and the factory stuff takes longer to remove than the hardtop.
Great job by the way..

Thanks guys.
Gary,
I made the bows from 3/4".095 tubing. The bows are welded, 1 piece set up. The rear window zips from the top so you don't have to remove it, but can if you want. With the rear zipped down and the doors off its like having a bikini top. My idea was to have the top and bows come off in 1 peice, but should have consulted with the upholsterer first as it ALMOST came out how i wanted. The top and bows together probably weigh 20-25lbs.
Oh, i used a Jarod Marx in Vallecito Lake. He does all of our customers rigs.

(The next one i will use heavier material for the soft top).

With your skills i would make it a removable 1 piece w/quick disconnects. bling bling.

Thanks for the info Mike. Thats a cool idea. I have a PAKI top that I am going to use as a starting point.
