I got a spare F engine. The serial # is F-528108. The numbers cast in to the drivers side rear of the engine are: 11411. The number cast in to the drivers side to the front are 60032 and 40128.

I'm trying to determine if this is a pre 73/74 F motor or if it is a 73/74 vintage F.5? I looked at the serial number info on the SOR website and the S/N would seem to indicate it's a late 73 or early 74 motor. If I use the 40128 number does that mean it was built Jan 28 of 1974?

Not sure but I recall reading a thread on MUD once referencing how to ID engines based on the casting info back when I was trying to figure out whether I had a 2F or not in my '74. You might search for that to confirm what you decoded based on the SOR info.

I already did that. Based on the S/N chart from SOR's website and decoding the casting numbers I'm pretty sure it's a Jan 74 F.5 motor. Thats pretty much confirmed since it has the spin on filter on the passenger side too.

An easy way to tell if it is a transition year F is whether it has the oil filter bracket and pressure regulator on the passenger side. The older Fs have the oil pressure regulator and inlet/outlet for the external oil filter on the driver's side under the manifolds.
