Like the header states, need a new gas tank for my 4Runner. I think I can use any tank from '85 to '89 truck or 4runner. If this is not so please let me know.

22r or 22re? There is a difference as the 22re has an in tank pump.

22RE and I found out it has to be from a 4Runner.

If you want to keep a back seat and not cut up the floor at least. Now if you wanted to raise the tank, the pickup tanks sit higher in the frame...

How much cutting needs to be done? I will look for info on the net but if you have some that would be great. Truck tanks any bigger? That would be a bonus.

Just hearsay, but I would imagine quite a bit of the floor would have to go. Pretty sure back in the 1st gen there were 4Runners without a back seat that had a bigger tank. My fuel tank is 19 gallons, which I don't think is a ton more than yours. Just that it sits a few inches higher, fairly close to flush with the frame on the bottom.

Roger Brown (the 4x4wire guy) installed a pickup tank in his runner, but iirc you need a 1" or 2" body lift. If you didn't want body lift, then you'd be hacking out the are where the back seat is.

I did a search yesterday and did not find much. I did see Rogers truck but like you said 2" BL and I do not need/want that. I will look for the 4Runner tank and see if I can find a rear frame one to add later.

To my knowledge, since I currently own 87 4Runner and Truck, they are matching sized tanks, the only difference being in the brackets. There is basically an extension on the 4Runner tanks from what I remember that drops it lower. I know my 4Runner carries about the same amount of fuel as my truck, but sits a LOT lower. If it is all in the brackets, then you can use a tank from either.

Cool, I will check it out.
