Sweet! I am years away from clearing out the basement for a layout... but it is the perfect basement for one.

So my lovely Moffat Mallets with sound, digital controller, D&SL rolling stock, hand-built kitbashed D&SL caboose, and Pullmans remain in cardboard and foam...

:( :gaah:

Hope it never comes to just divesting myself of them...

There is a model railroad club that meets at the Forney Museum. They have a huge display in the back room. Give them a call for details.

Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden also has a pretty big HO scale model railroad in the basement....

The DSMRR's is a good bunch of guys. I have been in Union Station many times, and always in amazement to what they keep doing to add to that layout. I would never join, because that is a hobby I could never afford. Not that the hobby doesn't have affordable parts, but my interests are On3 and 1-1/2" gauge live steam.

I love the idea of having a basement big enough to do what I want with it when I can afford it, but to be able to fit the entire state of Colorado from Winter Park south and the northern part of New Mexico in ones basement to scale would be really hard.

Maybe some day live steam will be where I can enjoy and reminisce the life I lived for a few years a long time ago.

The first picture is on the loop in Antonito after along day firing from Chama.
The second picture is me training a new student fireman. Something completely out of whack with the way it was, the student was in his 60's and I was in my 20's. He didn't last very long.

I put my HO equipment in a box Sophomore year of HS - 85? - and kept it because all the older guys I knew lamented having gotten rid of theirs. I was in a club with a huge basement layout in an apartment building Queens, and they had just torn it down to rebuild. I just googled and found it - http://www.empirevalleyrr.org/history.html - sure enough in 1985 they took down the layout. All the new track was to be hand laid - individual ties, spiked rails. I still have a scratchbuilt switch I was building.

I guess I have always loved to share my hobbies in groups.

Perry - thanks for being my inspiration to look up the old club.

If I am ever so old to need a sedentary hobby, that will be it.

Friday Dec 30, 7-9PM Open house. Who is in!

I hear there's a cool museum in Buena Vista. One of these years on our way through there we need to stop.. we were looking at the trains at Hobby Town USA last weekend, I think in another year or so I can get my old HO stuff out again, the kids will be into it.

I got my Dad's HO set back a few years ago, it was given to me when I was probably 5-6. The engine is from the late 40s or early 50's I think.

I used to love to watch it go around the x-mas tree. It has a milk car that wips out the milk cans.

My Ben is way to young now but hoping in a few years we can start that tradition going again.

you gotta go O Scale for the kids. HO always drove me bonkers setting it up and taking it down at xmas. Constantly fighting repairing engines and tracks so it would go around. O is awesome.
