Help me pick out a cheap (under $200) digital Camera
Well, we have offically lost our family camera, and we are in the market for a new one. I'd like to get one for Stacy for :princess: day this sunday.
I had a Sony Cyber-shot, pretty good camera.
I am looking for something that:
Takes good pics ;)
Has a good macro feature
Does good video, I notice a lot do HD now
I don't need a kerbillion mega-pixels but most seem to be around 12+ now.
Something with an intuative interface.
Can be found locally with someone who will stand behind it.
What do you have and do you like it? I am leaning towards Sony and Cannon, as I have good results in the past.
I like Canon Point and shoot
Although I'm a nikon dslr guy, I think canon makes some of the best point and shoots for the money. go to b&hphoto.com or adorama.com to do your research and check out the line of canons in that price range. IIRC, I've found that they focus pretty quickly with less shutter lag than others.
I like Mike's Camera in Boulder.
My only experience is with Nikon CoolPix cameras. We have had 3 and no complaints. I am yet to open an instruction manual, they are easy to use. We got our last one at Walmart for $120
Bought the :Princess: a newer Sony Cybershot DSC-W290 for Christmas based on how much I liked my older DSC-W100 I got for cheap for garage use etc. I'm NOT as impressed with the new one as I am my older one...
Part of my reasoning for sticking with Sony was I already had extra batteries, charger, and Memory Sticks (Sony uses their own special cards vs. SD cards) which helped keep costs under control.
But this new Sony doesn't seem to take as good of action or indoor shots as the older one did :( - There is no "action" setting or scene selection so many of the action shots came out blurry. It still does decent on stills and outdoor shots though IMO.
That said, I'd probably go with another make that uses SD cards that are more standard for use in other things....
EDIT: Bunch of camera deals here - link - but you wouldn't get one in time for Mother's Day
Here are some picture examples:
2009 with the old Sony DSC-W100
2010 with the new Sony DSC-W290 (note same pool and everything)
Outdoor still shots with the new DSC-W290
Popup camper before front landing leg was ripped off
the canon sd's are awesome point and shoot
More deals like the one above (many not refurbs). Go here and search:
Go to Best Buy and get a canon or whatever you like. Just get the three year replacement deal. We bought a new Casio and it worked great till it fell of the roof, two stories, minus me attached. Took it in and left with a new camera and a new 3 year warranty.
We now have a canon SD1100 IS and it is good for the $$$ but there are much better ones out there now, I see it falling in the lake soon:rolleyes:
They have waterproof/resistant cameras out there now that I may look at. Being at the lake most of the summer and 4wheeling with rain and dust I think one of those would be a great way to go.
we just got my wife the Panasonic Lumix waterproof, dustproof one. it was kinda pricey, but very nice. quick shutter response and lots of pre-set shooting scenes make it very easy to use.
Lumix is really good 'cuz they use Leica lenses for the most part.
