Jenny Creek Trip Report 7/30/11
A beautiful day in the high country! Thanks to all who came out. We had seven trucks on the trail, and all of us made it up and over the top to Yankee Doodle Lake (some may have required winching assistance though...).
The trail is in rough shape, with several rutty, muddy spots that have progressively gotten worse due to high water levels and trail abuse. We managed some trail clean up, and some water diversion work to help with drainage. And best of all we all got an exhibition of the true beauty and capability of Wild Rice.
Wes and Shawn crossing the creek.
Sandstorm waiting patiently for his turn to show off the capabilities of ATRAC (which is excellent).
Some of the rutty areas
Good RS folks at work.
And the fruits of their labor....water channeled to the creek.
More sexy Wild Rice.
The snow drift at the top of the trail by the camp sites is still vast and deep, and it'll be several weeks before it clears. Several ATV tracks were observed going around the snow, through the camping area, and up to the Wagon Road. Those bypasses will need to be addressed as well.
I should also note that Rollins Pass is still blocked by snow just above Yankee Doodle Lake. A snow drift still extends onto the road and is too narrow for a truck to pass.
More eye candy...
We had a great time. Thanks to Matt for putting this together.:thumb:
Shawn coming up the first obstacle.
UB in front of a badly washed out section of trail.
UB in one of his multiple full throttle attacks.
On the way out Wes spotted this ATV of the side of the trail about 30 feet off the trail so we winched back up on the road.
Trail looks pretty rough in spots for sure. I will show this to Maribeth so she can see the pictures. the off camber spot near the tree looks no fun at all.
How was the visible post and cable? was it in Ok shape?
Wild rice looks like one bad son of a gun. I love the way it sounds. It turned out super nice Kevin, congratulations on all the hard work.
I Also forgot to mention, can one of you guys email me with an estimate of hours worked and number of folks up there? I am trying to keep track of the volunteer hours up there.
Kevin, I know you've been up there a few times also and did some work. Let me know how long and how many folks also.
I think there were 10 of us probably 6+ hours piece. 60 hrs?
no doubt WR opened the Trail and is badass!
