portable 2m yagi build

I'm going to build one of these and wonder if someone has does this. I found two sites with similar specs for 2m but a guy on ebay was selling one he builds that says will work on 2m and 70cm, handy for satellite work. He also has several wraps of coax around the pvc, I'm guessing to better match impedance.

My basic questions are without a SWR what are the chances for success?
Is the coil necessary?

I think a standard hose clamp would work, no need for stainless.

This looks interesting, but I'm partial to the Arrow Antenna J-Pole. You can get a case if you want to make it a portable solutions.

Everyone has made one of these at some point! The tough part with tape measure yagis is getting the hairpin match connected to the tape. Soldering copper to steel is not easy. Just follow the instructions and get the dimensions right, it'll be close enough. A couple of issues ago QST had a story about a Boy Scout troop making them, so relax and don't worry.

That looks like a neat project, you should build it and see how it does. Building antennas is fun.

Finally got it built and it works great, even on 70 cm. Don't have an SWR but seems to work really well. I can hit the Pikes peak repeater on 1/10 the power of the copper J-pole above my roof line

I had made a portable j-pole using 300 ohm twin lead but I like this better in terms of performance.

I was worried about the tape measure solder but it wasn't bad at all. I tinned it first using a small butane soldering torch.

yeah. I'm with ya' on that for plug an play. I have one on an old broomstick tackedup to my fence. less (okay, maybe more) ghetto than you think.

any-hoooo...I love the idea of breaking it down to take with me, I have the one two-piece jobber. It works quite well. :thumb:
