2012 Colorado Big Game deadline 4/3/12

Reminder to all who hunt. Your big game application deadline is Tuesday 4/3/12. Wish everyone luck this coming year.

I'm up to 7 pts on deer and pronghorn

I've never understood how that point system works? I think I have 1pt for Deer.

points

Points are for trophy hunt areas. My wife and I apply for area 201 for bull elk every year. They give out around 45 licenses and around 2000 people apply for them every year. Each year you don't draw your first choice you get a point. The 201 early season bull hunt takes around 17 points to draw. I think I'm up to about 10 or so. That means in roughly 7 more years I can go hunt in an area where a 380 class bull is "small".

My wife and I are both applying for moose this year. Loaning the DOW just short of $1000 every spring, just so they can give most of it back is... entertaining.

I prefer cougar hunting, no license needed...only flashy jeans and good cologne

I put in for a preference point for muzzleloading for elk. Then bull, then cow in unit 7. If I draw a cow, then hopefully I can pickup a bull for rifle. Got a muzzleloading buck tag as well with my fishing license. I'm all set for the year.

Nick - What unit did you put in for moose? We see them all the time up in 7, and even have them walk through camp about every year.

AHorseThief 04-02-2012 03:31 PM

I'm putting into area 14 for moose. It's where we typically elk hunt, and there hasn't been a year yet where I haven't seen a moose or two.
