trouble finding a flywheel cover for my '76 FJ40...

hello! Thanks for letting me join the forum... I just picked up a 1976 FJ40 that has a rebuilt 1964 Chevy 327 engine - previous owner just used it for road driving, so never bothered getting the exposed flywheel covered. Have had my local mechanic here in Boulder try to get something to fit so I can get the 'Cruiser offroad safely, but no luck so far. Any tips on a shop that has done this type of conversion, or a suggested part that would do the trick?

Many thanks in advance for any tips!

You might call Ron at Rocky Mountain Cruisers

Also there's Charlie's Garage up in North Boulder, and Import Specialists out on e. Arapahoe. Both of them are good at working on Cruisers, but not sure about V8 conversions.. in fact I don't know if RMC does converted stuff either, or if he a 2F purist? So when you find out, post back up!

And welcome... can your truck make it to the meeting tonight?

You could also check with Joe Calleja at CTS (Colorado Toyota Specialists) in Conifer. He knows about V8 conversions. :)

Where did you buy your 40?

Jason,
What tranny are you running? If it's a '64 vintage Chevy, Svigel"s on South Santa Fe in Englewood may be able to fix you up. 303-781-4307, 4393 S Santa Fe Dr, Englewood, CO.

I bot my FJ here in Boulder, from a guy named Bob Perkins... he's been working on the '76 and a '77 for the last 10 years or so, but finally decided to throw his full attention to the '77 (which is almost all original toyota parts) and use the sale of the '76 towards that end. I don't think he's a Rising Sun member, but is pretty passionate about the FJ's so made sure to let me know about you guys. Its in pretty good shape - has been re-painted in the last year, real solid inside - put a couple hundred $ into it this week for an oil change, tune up, some hose repairs, etc and thats all my regular mechanic could find that needed doing outside connecting the washer pump and horn.

Also - I spoke to Ron at RMC, and he said he would def take a look at my flywheel, and that he does indeed work on converted 'cruisers.

I'll def keep you posted as I'm bringing it down the week after next! Thanks again for all the direction...
