Legal window tint

I'm a little surprised by the window tint in the 2003 100, in that it doesn't appear to be as dark as what was on my LX450. Maybe that one had customer added tint above and beyond, but I didn't think so.

So, I would like to add tint to keep from baking my face on the commute....any idea on how much you can add to the factory tint to keep from going over the 27% law? Any recommendations on a good shop in the Denver area?

Thanks!

Are you saying that your driver side window has a factory tint on it? I don't know that I've seen that before.

My 99 has a "factory" tint, which is actually added at the dealership prior to sale. I checked it out with Jerry, and it was on the original sales ticket back in 99 as having "privacy glass" on the front windows. I love it.

That said, I've heard all sorts of differing stories on what is legal and what isn't, but I had 15% on all windows in my old runner, and never had an issue.

Two things I love about tint:
1. Cooler summer driving is a HUGE plus.
2. With my sunshade in, it is nearly impossible to see what is in the front seats clearly through the front windows. A small, but surprisingly effective theft deterrent from my reading on the interwebz.

Yeah, pretty much all glass is factory tinted except for my 40. It's not "dark" by any means, but definitely not clear. I know it doesn't have aftermarket film, as it would be pointless to go that light. My beef is that I can see right through the back and beyond the other side. I couldn't do that on the LX450, so I guess he added tint all around on that one. I know he added it to the front, because it didn't match in color.
So....I need to tint every window in the 100.

Just because you can see through it doesn't mean it's transparent to IR light. The stock glass has additives in it to help reflect IR heating. Adding an additional film to it may help a bit more but IMHO its more psychological than practical - if it's darker inside, you'll think its cooler which maybe is a good enough reason to add tint. I hate how fragile the stuff is, how hard it is to see out at night, and how some films distort the view through them.

Barry there's a shop in the building next to Big Choice that did my 100, and I think they did a terrific job. I forget the name... but you can't beat the location. They matched the fronts to the back windows, and also did the windshield in some type of clear film that supposedly blocks 50% of the heat. I did it last fall so didn't have a full summer, but I really did notice a difference when driving around in the day.

Edit: the only nuance I've noticed is with polarized sunglasses, sometimes you can see a little rainbow when looking sideways through the windshield... doesn't impair driving though. Here's a pic:

I dunno what the legal limit is but i had them match my 2 front windows to the rest of the side windows and and 4-6" clear bra only to the hood.. not the sides etc. for something like $150 for the quality stuff.

I don't know what is on my LX but I doubt it is legal per se. I haven't been pulled over yet but I believe that if I get pulled over for something else that I'd likely get a ticket for the tint. As I recall if you have a certain level of tint on the rear windows then you can't have anything on the front.

I like the tint level during the day in the summer but I'm with Bruce that it is a PITA at night, especially when backing up. On many occasions I've put down the front windows when backing up at night so I could see better.
