steering gear rebuild

Anyone have local recommendation for shops that I should consider for a rebuild of a stock manual steering box for the 40?

I know about west Texas but I prefer to use a local company.

I used them for my box recently, did a great job and was very reasonable.

Mike, I still have the manual box off of my 77 FJ40. I removed it when I did a power steering upgrade, but it was working great (about 100k miles at that time). Should be the same as a 76. It is yours if you want it, if you want to delay or eliminate rebuild costs.

Thanks Sascha, I have 2 now going to rebuild the better of the two, but thanks very much for the offer!

Hummm. I have a spare steering box that I currently have disassembled and am going through for my 76. I have new seals ordered and my bearings look good. My understanding is the worm gear bearings are not serviceable. The two other bearings & races and all the seals are pretty easy to get to. If they can service the worm gear I would be interested to know how they get to those bearings and cost. If you ask!

Doing it yourself is actually pretty easy. If you can do a front axle service you can rebuild your manual steering box. Below is from my 1976. Click to go to the full page on my web site:
