Entry level field binoculars suggestions

I know the mantra of buying the best glass you can afford, but I am looking for an entry level set of field binoculars that are compact enough for hiking and hunting but have good clarity for the money. Main usage would be hunting/hiking and keeping in the truck for taking in views and wildlife.

I have been looking at some of the Nikon and Leupold models. I'd love to be in the sub $250 range, so I am open to any other brand as well.

Thanks! :thumb:

Take a look at Vortex Optics ... very pleased with what they've produced. I have a couple of their scopes and a pair of their Viper HD binocs:

Leupold Cascade 10x42

I researched and tried out a bunch before purchasing last year. I was looking for the same thing, hiking/scouting/hunting and wanted it under $300. I decided on the Leupolds. Optics planet had them on sale and Leopold had a rebate at the time so I got the Mojave for around $300. The Cascades had the same quality, just a slightly different body for about $50 less.

Vortex wins my vote generally $4$ against most others. I have an older pair of the Viper HD model that I really like. The warranty is had to beat too. Leupold gets my 2nd vote.

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology just released a great review of the best binoculars of 2013. Id start there. In a past life I had the pleasure of using Swarovski Swarovision 10x42 EL, Swarovski Swarovision 8x32 and Zeiss Conquest HD 8x42 for doing field work. Epic optics, but the cost is dear.

Test drove some vortex diamond backs at bass pro. 8x28 and I putthemheads up against the luepold in the same class, the vortex were impressive. I was happy to see them come in a little cheaper than I was hoping to spend at $160.

Thanks for the recommendation.
