after looking for Ham stuff

Any how I am on the quest to take the Ham test, I am studying the manual and about 1/2 through. I will get most of it out of the way this weekend(wife out of town, some honeydo to do, but time to read as well). I have played on line some taking tests. Getting better.
I read some old posts and did not know where to post questions about Ham stuff, it seems like the ham stuff was all over different forums. I need to find person take the test from, I did see one site, but it only referenced some one over in Golden. I was hopeing for some one closer. So where did all you ham nuts take your tests?
I have been doing some research on equiptment and see what others ham nuts are using. I will be going with the dual band stuff, more than likely the Yeasu(I think I spelled it right) 8700.
Any how I have kneeled before the force and want to have clear communications in my wife(I really mean life). thanks for any helpfull hints. Later Robbie:D;)

Good for you, Robbie! Here are some helpful links:

www.qrz.com scroll down and click on "Practice Tests" on the left

http://www.arrl.org/arrlvec/license-requirements.html is a link to ARRL to find testing locations & schedules

Ham Radio Outlet in Denver has lots of toys to chose from. I own a Yaesu FT-8800 mobile radio and a Yaesu VX-7R HT

Once you take your test you can monitor the FCC site to see when your license is issued: http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsS...rchLicense.jsp

And finally, here is a thread on the Ham topic. We have a little radio get together Mondays at 9:00 PM on the 145.145 repeater, if the frequency is open. :D

Don't hesitate if you have any other questions. :)

Yep. Check the ARRL site for testing dates and locations.

Yaesu makes a great radio. I have an FT-7800.

There are a bunch of new Hams on the Expedition Portal forum and lots of good questions being asked and answered in this sub-forum: ExPo communications forum
They have a semi-monthly IRLP net- Check it out!

I didn't know RS had a weekly net! Ill be on there for sure!

NOT really a "Net", more of an informal sked. We meet and chew the rag with each other about trips and trucks. Other non-RS ops join in and we talk about radios. In the early days several of the Ol timers have helped with procedural and technical problems we were having. Mainly mon nights are about getting us use to using our radios and being comfortable with procedure.

We do get out and have some fun combining 4wd and Ham Radio

You guys are still on dial-up, right? Because it works just fine for getting on the 'net, there's no real need to upgrade.. :hill:

Holding out on Ham Radio is like refusing to drink Fat Tire over butt-wiper(Sorry, Jethro!), or refuse to drink Crown over dishwater! Silly cruiser wheeler, CB's are for Jeeps!
