Where to stay Monday night

So Tuesday night, which is probably the most difficult night to find lodging, is now covered.

Let's talk Monday night. We'll be leaving from Denver on Monday morning. We have 2 options for routes:
  • Up through Cheyenne, across WY, down to SLC, etc.
1,175 mi about 16 hours 37 mins (Google Maps)
  • Across I-70 thru Grand Junction, up to SLC, etc.
1,168 mi about 17 hours 43 mins (Google Maps)
Either way the distance is nearly the same. If we want to travel slightly more than halfway, we could aim for the UT/NV state line. That's 647 miles: appox. 10 hours of driving according to Google Maps.

Is that too far on the first day? I was thinking that if we knocked off more than half on the first day, we could roll into our Tuesday night digs and kick back some more.

Looking for places to stay:

Utah state parks (just east of the UT/NV state line)
Bonneville Salt Flats State Park
Danger Cave State Park
Can't tell if they have camping or not

Nevada places to stay (just west of the UT/NV state line)
City of West Wendover
Peppermill Hotel & Casino -- has good reviews online
Several KOA campgrounds

Here's the area I'm thinking of.

I'm in to going over half way and then have a reasonable drive the next day relaxing in our resort accomodations.

Nevada would be my pick. Casinos usually have some inexpensive lodging and places to eat nearby.

More about Wendover

"Wendover, Utah... The town straddles Nevada, where it's called West Wendover. The Nevada side is casino-rich, the Utah side is trailers for casino workers."

Some pictures, including "Wendover Will."

Apparently the division between the fortunes of the two towns is so drastic that the two towns were considering moving the state line, so they could merge and have the whole town in Nevada. Everyone spends their money on the Nevada side, where there is drinking and gambling. Story

Sounds good to me. I always like this route when we go the Crater in Heber City, UT to go diving. I added the leg to Wendover for comparison. :D
