holy cross rocked

thanks to clc! we all had a blast!

went up friday night. our club had one heck of a meal going. ub had a bitchen roast that he'd been cooking for 10 hours in the crock pot, plus there were chicken brats, tamales, salad, chips and dip, way more food than we could eat. plus one big a.. campfire:D

we also had rain...nope....hail. and woke up saturday morning to one heck of a freeze, but as soon as the sun came up, it all went away in a steamy haze.

9am sharp, we headed to the trail head.

kinda hard to see from the angle i had, but look closely at vic's 40 in the last pic and you'll see some mad flex going on:thumb:

some of the wives came and we had our share of dogs and one horse, mead.;)

next, matt checks out lines on the first obstacle, while tim, our fearless leader from clc tackles the hard line. isaac wasn't about to let anyone tell him little tires and ifs can't play with the big boys and he walked right up. and if isaac can do it, than by god, so can 3fe power :)

ub tried to create new harder line, but alas, gave in to ROCK STACKING:eek: the one rock that he allowed was enough to pop his fatbastard up and over.

most of us took what i dubbed the wussy line, which i was later told isn't anywhere near the wussy line it used to be.

here's marco and vic on obstacle no one, and we can't forget warpig, who almost lost the war when the cv started to disintegrate and it got caught hard literally between a rock and a hardplace (skidplate). that's not mad flex, that's full flex and a belly stuck solid.

a quick snatch with the winch (and a couple rigs hooked together to try to outweight the 3ton pig) and we were on our way to french creek to try to pick lines.

then it was our turn. bill tried the hard line and with some finagling and a lot of help managed to get through.
steve took the "easy (hah!)" and got sideways, then was wedged between two very large boulders, but with a few rigs hooked together to match his almost warpig weight and ub pulling one of the boulders, he was soon out of there.

we soon learned the boulder ub winched out of the way was actually one of the winch points at one time (look on the bottom). when we found it, it was upside down. the other winch point was about 100 yards down the trail:eek: and by gawd, if that boulder wasn't bound and determined to make life difficult for us. if it made the back part of the obstacle better, it made the first part worse. here, it was right in ub's way, so while avoiding it, he couldn't avoid boulder no. 2

fortunately for ub, bvb was there to pull him up the trail. he'd left his 60 at camp with his wife, so he had to do it all manually...he must be tired today :lmao:

here's the back part of the obstacle, complete with one diff catching rock that i'm pretty sure got almost everyone in the group.

that's the winch point on my passenger quarter and boulder no2 on my left front fender. keep in mind, the back half of the obstacle doesn't mean that you go through the front half and then line up for the back half...there in almost no manuevering once you've started going.

the warpig started up the trail, while neil tries isaacs line (yeah, that's right...isaac...with his little tires and weenie ifs...and ya know what...he cakewalked it.)

the guy in the red was a HUGE help in getting us up the trail...he was in the group behind us and just had his ankle rebuilt, but was out there spotting and chucking rocks. THANK YOU!!

next, treeroot may not have been there in person, but he was in spirit. this doesn't look hard in the pics, but it was something going up and just plain nasty coming back down:eek: the second shot shows the angle a bit better

finally we made it to the city and cleveland rock. only tim, ub and the redline guys with their warpig were going to attempt this. while everyone was playing on cleveland rock...the little sprinkles started and by the time we'd hiked back down the trail, it turned into a hard rain.

remember that little treeroot. remember what wood is like when it's wet. well, it turned into "creep down and DO NOT HIT THE BRAKES". that's a hard thing to do since instinct is to try to stop when you start to slide. and we weren't sliding down...we were sliding sideways towards the edge of the cliff:eek: there was soo much pucker factor that ub was stopped for quite a bit before the final drop telling tim that he really didn't like the way this felt. if ub doesn't like it...there's pucker factor!

we soon made it to the exit trail and just in time...the storm had blown into a full out thunder and lightning storm and that lightning was right on top of us!

some stayed...betcha had snow this morning :D, while some of us tried to haul butt home. "tried", because that storm was a full out downpour, heavy water on the roadway, can't see where you're going storm the whole way home...until evergreen. i got home to denver to not a lick of water:(

kick ass trip!!! thank you clc!
