Make sure your fuel cut solenoid is functioning properly. With key on engine off you should be able to hear a click as you plug/unplug it. It is the only electrical device on your carb.

I think the rear carrier bearings are different. I think the rear carrier is different (full float vs semi). I think the front carrier and ring gear are totally different sizes.
Not 100% on that but...
