I wouldn't have any concern pulling the front shaft for such a long drive. People have driven rear wheel drive cars in the summer on long road trips for years. This will be no different. My guess is that it will save you a bit of gasoline, since you won't be sending power to turn all 4 wheels. You may also find it a bit more pleasant to drive with fewer vibrations. I say pull the front driveshaft, drive it on the hwy around here, and see what you think.
