IMO the image is still 100x, just smaller. I guess I'm basing that off images you see in science books etc. If they magnify something 1000x with a microscope, take a pic, and then reduce the "size" of the picture by 1/2 to fit it in the book IMO the image is still 1000x magnified, just smaller in size thus harder to see. Probably why most of the time publishers crop images to show a smaller section of an overall larger picture.
But maybe I'm right there with you on the stupd part
All I know is no way can I post up full res 12mp pictures on the forum
- First they're 3+ MBs large and at 100% they are HUGE
