I bought the digitizer screen off of e-bay. With shipping it was $15!
My contract does not renew with Verizon until March of next year so they were wanting $650 for a new phone. Since I'm unemployed right now, I knew that was NOT happening. So, I got on-line and read up on how to replace the screen. My LCD was fine. A new LCD would have been like $50, though. Then, I found a video on you tube of a guy showing pretty much exactly how to take the phone apart down to about 6 pieces to heat up and pry the old screen out. Everything I read said about 3 hours, but once I sat down with all my tools it only took about 1.5 hours. It really only takes about 20 minutes to get the phone apart...the most work it trying to get the old screen out since it is broken and really stuck to the frame. Another option is to buy the frame and glass together for about $100. This would literally only take about 30 minutes to fix if bought together.
I was definitely nervous that when I put it back together it wasn't going to work...but, so far, working perfectly. You have to take all the little ribbon connectors apart very carefully. But you, UB, and others here are very good with electronics, so it would be a cinch for you guys.
