Looks like a few options for apple. And I don't know anything about jail breaking. I think it cracks the programming so you have access to more on the programming?
Otherwise maybe try and find a used/cheap android phone or tablet.
And I think the Bluetooth is very specific and limited on the iPhone. That is one issue on some of the programs and obd2 readers.
