I haven't wheeled IFS nearly as hard as Isaac but my $0.02 is that with a couple of critical upgrades (truss and idler) IFS is just fine for 33" tires. Slow & steady (I had 4.7 t-case gears when I was wheeling mine hardest) and, mainly, keep the wheels on the dirt and when you do lift a front tire don't go Ironman with the gas.
