It's possible the flex plate broke and is no longer driving the converter and front pump. This usually results in no motion at all since the trans cannot engage due to lack of hydraulic pressure. It could also be an issue with the pump and/or the drive tangs on the converter that engage the pump. If those have been damaged they could be slipping intermittently and causing the issue. Burned fluid means something is slipping. I think an overhaul is in your future.
