I am looking at buying an FJ40 that will mainly be a trail rig, but I want something original that I can possibly restore one day. Everything I have seen in my price range has plenty of rust. What is the best means of slowing/stopping/repairing rust on these rigs? I'm looking at one on CL right now that has this typical FJ40 issue. It is a 1979 and is mechanically perfect, just has cosmetic issues. You think $ 3,000 sounds fair?
