Our own Caboose Hobbies is pretty cool for displays. Can be expensive to go there. That's where I first found out about the Moffat Road, years ago, looking at this really cool used brass Mallet, articulated front engine, short length, tall boiler, lotsa wheels and Walschaerts valve gear... very entertaining.

I found this pic of her in D&RGW livery, as she would have been ca. 1947 or so:

Boys like watching moving parts...

Oh, and for the kids... LGB scale is very hard to beat. Great Christmas tree train. Good for outdoors too.
