Yes, I used some schedule 40 steel pipe I got at Home Depot. I measured the thickness of the PTO gear and made the pipe within about +/-0.010" same. The tricky part was making the ends really really flat without a lathe. I just took my time with a bench grinder and it came out well. No wobbles or vibrations. Let me see if I can find my article....
