Default What CB to get ?

I'm looking to buy a really nice cb. But don't know which brand or model to get. Any help would be great. I don't want to cost more than my ham I plan on buying. But don't want a cheap walmart POS. Possibly high end of medium. Or if there cheap enough the best one.

I picked up the Uniden 510. It is the least expensive model in the Uniden line. With the antenna tuning the SWR is good and is worked fine on the trail runs where I used it. On the Bill Moore Run where we had 20+ trucks and were spread out, I did need some assistance in relaying communication to the trail lead - but from what I understand this is not uncommon with CB. Of course, with HAM I've never found the number of trucks and the spread to be an issue.

I don't have a cb in either vehicle anymore. I do have the wiring and I can put it in temporary for cm but that's it. no more cb for me.

Right channel radios posted on our forum and they seem to have good prices and customer service.http://www.risingsun4x4club.org/foru...ead.php?t=7861

Yeah I've got that Cobra 75 too and it's actually pretty solid, as far as CB's go.

In an ultimate moment of supreme geekness, I'll occasionally flip it on to hear the weather bands, which is faster than tuning to those on the Ham, and it'll pick it up in town even with the CB antenna flipped down. Other than official runs at CM, that's its only use anymore..

CB's don't suck, they work exactly like an inexpensive 5 watt radio in low band frequencies are expected to work.

Find the least expensive CB you can and get it, any differences in price have little to do with real quality and are due more to bells & whistles that you probably don't need. It's much more important with CB to make sure your antenna has a good ground plane, and is correctly installed and tuned.

HAM is nice but if you do a lot of runs with Front Range or CO4x4 you'll find that few of them have Hams and most do have CB's.

Mine in the 40 picks up the Wx even with no antenna installed - When the radio goes out, that's all I have to listen to

Tim, I'm with the others. I have the Uniden 520 - I based my decision solely on what would fit in the ashtray location of an 80 (Uniden 510 or 520). I'd decide where you want to install the CB and then go from there looking for units that will fit.
