Default What did I do to the Distributor?

Hi Guys,
I'm working on a Sept. 74 40 (F155 which is the, "F.5" engine). It ran well but seemed like the vacuum advance/retard (don't know which specifically) wasn't working on the dizzy (lack of power under a load like going uphill, and the occaional backfire under those conditions). So yesterday I pulled the cap/rotor & that little metal dish/cover & used some brak cleaner, and then electircal connector cleaner, followed by, "wire dryer" to free up the advance mechanism (it wasn't moving under vacuum). I let it all dry out opened up over night, and now I have no spark at all.

The ignition coil fuse is still good on it, so I have no clue. Anyone have any ideas of what I might have done?

Thansk in advance!
Best,
Abe

I assume it has points? Are you getting spark there? (Be sure and check the gap on the points in case you inadvertently closed them up.) If so, trace it up from there, it could be a bad coil wire or distributor cap. If no, then check the wires from the ignitor and from the key to the points.

It does have points, & as nearly as I can tell it isn't getting any spark there at all. I was spraying some compressed air into the distributor to make sure it was dry & saw something loose & fluttering. So I founds some loose parts. I pulled them out, but have no idea what they are...
Anyone know what these would be for?

Looks like the parts for the mechanical/centrifugal advance of the distributor.
