Default Parking Brake Light On

Hi All,

I'm about two hours from home today and have a tech issues. While driving, the red parking brake light came on. Obviously, the hand brake was down, so I assume there is a fuse, or some other issue?

While I was under the car, my wife engaged the hand brake. We see that the wire pull away from the wheel assembly.

So here's the questions:
Is there a fuse to check?
Should the wire pull the rubber bump stops away from the wheel assemblies?
If nI don't smell a smell or hear a bad noise, am I damaging the brakes?

Thanks!!

Not sure which car you are in, but in the 80's low brake fluid will also cause the parking brake light to come on. Give the fluid a check, as well as just check the wires going into the brake res. cap.

Sure enough, the fluid is low. There's a leak, too. Not sure from where but pooling under vehicle (80). I guess I'll buy some fluid and try to make my way home. Wish me luck!

Thanks!!

Looks like I have a Master cylinder issue. I see a leak coming from around the cylinder underneath the fluid reservoir. I think I'll need to have it repaired here in Colorado Springs tomorrow. Does anyone have a reccomendation on where to take it for service? I was thinking the local Toyota dealer, but that can be expensive.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
