Default Volkswagen

"Land Rover and Volkswagen both told us their companies are working hard to improve reliability."

All pre-1979 VW (1965 beetle, 1966 squareback, both air cooled and both 6-volt systems) I have owned have been very reliable in the electrical arena. All post 1979 volkswagens (1987 jetta gli, 1989 jetta 16v, 1995 jetta vr6, and 2001 golf) I have owned have had electrical problems that cost a fortune to fix.

Seems like these two companies went backwards instead of forward with their engineering in these areas.

"Land Rover considers the impression of quality products of paramount importance and is continuously working towards achieving at least the perception of total customer satisfaction, in lieu of actual proactive quality-in-manufacturing programs" a Land Rover spokesman said, adding that this year's survey showed a slight improvement for its cars, at least relative to itself, not the rest of the automotive market. The company is investing heavily in manufacturing and engineering, and is expecting to see an "upward trend" in quality as a result, now that they have not quite gotten away with their plans to increase profitability at the expense of quality.
Fixed the quote in the interest of accuracy...

LOL! Good one...increase profitability at the expense of quality. Sounds like something F*rd would do. Oh wait...doesn't F*ord own Rover? :-0

BTW, Linda's 2001 VW bug has got to be one of the worst pieces of you-know-what for a relatively new vehicle with under 50k miles. Did you know it costs $400 to change out a burned out headlight bulb on those suckers? I couldn't believe it until I saw that you have to take out the battery tray and a whole bunch of stuff just to get to it. This doesn't include the recalls and warranty repairs she's had to deal with.
