Default weird noise and on the road, little help needed

Got back in the truck this afternoon to a weird noise? Hard to describe, definitely engine speed dependent sounds like its coming from the back almost fuel pump area.

Had 2 o2 sensor. Codes:
P0130 O2 sensor circuit malfunction
P0133 O2 sensor CRT slow response
Both bank 1 sensor 1. Also had my full time P0401 egr code so I don't know when it threw the O2 codes

I cleared the codes and the noise went away when restarted?

Thoughts? We are in Charleston, SC currently with only very basic tools so I hope to not have to do any repairs. But still have 2000+ miles of driving left before getting home next week.

exhaust leak. with the car cold ( so you dont burn your self ) start the truck , get under the truck, and run your hands down the pipe like () w/o touching it, if you have a leak youll feal the air pressure

The o2 code thing is kind of expected after 135k it's the noise thing. It was there then 3 minutes later with the codes cleared gone? Engine still plenty hot. I know I have a small leak between both cats but seals itself when they heat up and expand. I can see it in the winter when I first start it up.

Perhaps since the O2 sensors were acting up, the computer was sending errant messages to the injectors, or mass airflow to cause an unstable engine situation. After the codes were cleared, the computer was able to properly regulate the mix to get a smooth sounding engine.

sorry i didnt know all the details.. if the evap is in the rear, as most cars are.. it could have opened a purge or somthing stupid like that.. im just gessing.. but if it was there only for a few minutes then gone. i doubt its to serious

Did the noise sound like a cavitating pump?

Not sure how to describe it but I get a noise out of both the LX and the 80 from time to time...Like the fuel or tranny pumps are cavitating...best way I can think of to describe the sound. The sound definitely comes from behind the driver and I hear it on startup and then it will go away. Most often I hear it after the truck has been running for awhile, gets shut down for a bit, and then I get back in to drive.

The noise was definitely directly related to engine speed. So although it seemed to be coming from the area of the fuel pump I doubt it is the fuel pump. We are doing a short drive out to a plantation tour today. I guess I'll see if the noise and/or codes come back.

Having someone hold a rag over the tailpipe tip (plugging the exhaust) while the engine is running will greatly amplify any existing exhaust leaks, making them easier to find. This is a trick I saw my exhaust guy use.

No idea on the noise, but the codes look like they could be the result of some bad wiring or a dirty o2 sensor plug also.... may want to make sure the 02 sensor plug is nice and clean. Unplug it, clean it and put it back together.

I have noticed in the past that exhaust leaks upstream of the O2 sensors typically cause them to read a false lean condition which sets off a P0171 or P0174 code. I don't think that an exhaust leak caused the codes to set.

Well two days of driving around Charleston and no codes yet. Driving up to Myrtle Beach tomorrow. See if some highway time sets one off. But so far so good. Have to call CDan when I get back for some O2 sensors.
