Default Visiting rockies from UK

Hi all
My wife and I are visiting a good mate in Denver at the end of August and going up to Yellowstone for a bit but have a few days back in Denver and are looking to head into the rockies for some hiking, and photography. We've got John Fielder's Best of Colorado book and north west of Denver looks the place to go for two-nights/three days.

On the web I found a couple of 4wd hire places but wanted to ask if it is possible to hire a land cruiser in Denver area - preferably with an auto box. Recommendations welcome. Also keen on hearing good wildlife areas NW of Denver. Only planning moderate routes not rock crawling. Will take a jeep if i have to........

Recommended routes appreciated too

Living in London [don't ask] with an 80 Series VX which is kitted out for overlanding - previous owners took it to Capetown. On the European land cruiser club forum. Looking at Southern Europe next year and should have been in Libya right when the bombing started but some work kept us out. Lucky as I didn't want a 50 cal on the roof rack. Done some overlanding with a 70 series in Botswana.

Obviously will visit land cruiser mecca while in town [Slee].

cheers from Blighty
Simon

You might purchase/borrow one of the many books that describe offroad trails in Colorado. Charles Wells is the author of some, but there are many others.

Thanks for all the suggestions and I'm definitely going to try out those Charles Wells books. I'm guessing that NW of Denver will have more wildlife to see than SW Colorado? Anything bigger than a badger would do.

SW Colorado is as close to the Alps as you can get here. IMHO at least.

Of course it's ALL good!
