Correct...I didn't mean to confuse the issue. I thought I remembered from back when that the original owner was the only owner until the 40 started getting "handed down". I should have stated you need to find the last owner whose name is on the title - as far as the state is concerned, that person still owns the 40 and hasn't registered it for years...It will be interesting to see if you get hit with the Ritter fee after it is all said and done...

The way I uderstand it, the fee is only for the old owner..."my" date starts with the date on the Bill of Sale.....but I guess it depends on how they transfer the title...

just bypass all that nonsense. Tim go with her. Get him her to sign power of attorney to get a title and take care of the rest. Just like Timm was buying it from him. Get a bill of sale too. I believe you can get everything you need with this but you might take a trip to the dmv and verify

either the POA or just saying the title was lost:

http://www.dmv.org/co-colorado/repla...lost-title.php

If your title has been lost, stolen or damaged, you can get a duplicate title by going to your nearest county office. Make sure to bring the following materials:

If your vehicle was purchased on or after July 1, 2006 you must provide appropriate identification.

VIN number and title number.

Payment of $8.20 for the duplicate title.

you can't get a duplicate title if it's not in your name. you need the power of attorney or the person whom's name is on the title.

I don't see how this means you will be issued a Salvage Title unless of course it is in deed a salvage vehicle. It says "title OR salvage title" meaning either can be issued depending on the research findings.

If anyone wants to PM me specific questions go ahead. As a previous auto dealer employee I know more than the average Joe but don't really want to openly post some of my opinions on this subject.

This is correct. If you could get a POA on the PO you could then have a dup title printed (only if one has not already be issued. The DMV will only issue one dup per title). Then with the dup title and POA you can essentially sell it to yourself and sign the PO name as POA. Make sense?

Title work sucks, it was one of my least favorite jobs.

I don't really care what process we need, as long as it's the one that will get the FJ40 with Timm and I think that's going to mean going to the last registered owner and having him sign over the vehicle to the new owner, which will be Timm. That's how I've come to understand this, but this is all new to me.
