Default radio test

Will anyone be on the air today/tonight? I want to test a new radio install. I'll probably shout out on 146.460 and the Denver CCR around 5:00.

Denver CCR is 145.310. I'll try at 6:15ish. I can usually hit folks in Denver on the 146.460 simplex channel too from up here in Evergreen. Thanks!

I'll run down and listen to both for a few minutes at 1815.

Sorry I missed you Dave, but I had a short but very clear QSO with Jeff shortly after 1800. The radio and antenna seem to be working fine. I'll try some of the repeaters Friday in the morning and afternoon on my way to/from work. around 0630 and 1730.

Good talking with you Martin...Still amazes me the reach HAM has

Sorry I'm wasn't more technical about signal strength etc...Hard to watch the display while driving up Broadway at that time of day - I'd say you were S6 to S7

So, I've had a few QSO's with folks on the the FT2800M. I can hear people crystal clear, but everyone has said that my transmissions are very weak. Anyone know if this could be the fault of the antenna, or is there a gain setting on a FT2800M?

A couple things come to mine. First, you have a soft voice naturally so be sure to speak clearly and firmly. Speak into the mic and hold it in front of your mouth a few inches away. Check that you are not set for half deviation, not sure if the FT-2800 can do this though it's a problem on a lot of HTs. There might be a mic gain, if so increase in small amounts, say 5 steps on a scale of 100, until you get good signal reports.

Thanks Dave. I looked through the manual and the only reference to the MIC gain control was the "W/N DV" setting. It can either be set to "Wide" or "Narrow". I'll see what mine is set to and test it out tomorrow on the road.

That's wide or narrow deviation. Set it to wide if it's not.
