Default FSR 370 - Roosevelt National Forest

I took a drive yesterday up behind Allenspark to check St Vrain Mtn trailhead, scope out the snow level and such and came back down through Ward.

Just below Ward I saw a little trail heading up the hill. It was marked FSR 370. I googled a little and found nothing but I went up it about 1/2 mile. Doozy of a trail actually. Really fun. Especially the beginning.

Anybody done that thing? Does it have a "name"?

Like I said, I got about 1/2 mile up it and there was a older Jeep Cherokee, pretty well set up but really having a helluva time. Lots of pushing, rock stacking, etc. I offered to help but they were having fun. I had to get back down the hill to get the boy at the rec center but I'm kind of surprised that (A) I driven by it 100 times and (B) it isn't swamped with masses of asses like Lefthand Canyon. BTW, Lefthand Canyon was hosting a Stones concert evidently. At least 50 cars parked at the mouth there.

I don't see anything specifically marked on the MVUM.

How far south of Ward? Looks like there are a few spurs on the east side near Gold Hill Road, but not much on the west side.

Looks like Paul's talking about 370.1 and 370.1A, which is right off of Lefthand Canyon Drive just east of Ward. Correct Paul?

Thanks for posting that. Yes. That thing just got a FSR sign as I have never seen it before. I was hoping it went further back but it was fun enough that I'll do it again.

Nobody been on that eh?

I looked at the first 50 yards once while I was on the motorcycle. Way to steep for me so turned around. It'd be cool if it connected to 102J.

I had my doubts whether the 80 would make it up the first 100 yards but it really wasn't even an issue. I walked it first and even with my hiking boots on, it was hard to stay upright with all the loose stuff on that steep pitch. After that first 100 it still climbed pretty good but not nearly as steep. Maybe it is just cuz I have Cabin Fever to such epic proportions but it was fun. It is nowhere near as hard as Miller Rock (I think the hardest in my neighborhood) but it was fun and it is nice to have another little trail to run.

Not sure if I've done that or not.
Ping me next time you're up for an outgoing and I'll come along - excuse to put on my 35" before I sell them
