But I think once you have the Collector plates you do not need to E-Test again unless you let them expire, correct?

Right. I just renewed my Collector's Plates for my '77 a couple years ago with no e-test.

I just asked this week when I picked up my plates. My 78 cannot get the collector plates. Guess I'll keep her stock. She runs good, and is fun to drive daily!!!

I sold my stock, very clean but de-smogged 1980 40 last year because it had to get emissions Every YEAR! What a huge pain that was. And it wasn't just a tail pipe test either. They looked for the stuff under the hood. I'd put on the catalytic converter just for the test, then remove it after it passed. It all became too much. If I own another 40 it will be a pre-1975 for sure

My Sister recently bought a 73 FJ40 for her husband. Equiped with a Chebby V8, etc. She went to get plates, and purchased the collector plates...no test, never checked, just purchased. My 77, on the other hand, needs yearly tests.

Wow, what a pain.
Glad I collector plates on the '78 right before the FASTER rate increases kicked in.
I did it before e-testing came BACK to Larimer and Weld counties, so I did not have to test before getting the plates.
When I was setting up my PS on the 40 everyone said I was foolish to design it with the air pump. Everyone said e-testing was going away for northern CO.
For some reason, I just didn't believe it would stay gone...
