You Denver guys are lucky to still have metal places with a scrap yard, the one down here in COS is now nothing but dirt. Guys were buying steel scrap and taking it down the block to the recycle place to sell for a profit. Now it's all gone and I'm buying full sheets except for the occasional drop that meets my needs. Priced a 4x8 sheet of 14GA lately? Ugghhh...

Matt, That's likely K&K Surplus on Brighton Road. www.kksurplus.com

I've had great success there with full & drop pieces of tube and lots of smaller drops for gussets. They also have some interesting hardware that varies each time I'm there.

i just LOVE that place. huge selection of salvage/scrap steel, i almost always find exactly what i'm looking for and you can't argue with $.50/pound. lately they have been getting tons of 1/8 and 3/16 plate that is perfect for brackets/bumpers etc.

new steel prices are very reasonable as well, and they are always happy to cut, so they are great for small projects. i'm not sure what the exact prices are, but i've bought several individual pieces of DOM less than 4' long, and along with some scrap plates, i've never spent more than $20 on a trip.

its nice to have several project in mind and hit the place regularly, sometimes you just stumble on the perfect piece, and then you can score it at scrap yard prices. especially awesome for sheetmetal, they have TONS and $5 buys a lot of sheet when priced by the pound.

people are nice and helpful, signs say they charge to cut, but i've never had them actually charge me.
