Did the 6qt fluid change. No dice. Also opened up the inspection hole in front of the TC and the rattling noise is definitely coming from that region. I'm going to try this 3FE TC tomorrow, but before I do, are there any bearings, etc that might need replacing while I'm in there?

Was the old fluid level registering low before you changed it?

No, but it smelled really bad. I found a video of what my truck sounds like. It is doing exactly the same thing, only I can get it to catch sometimes...

It's possible the flex plate broke and is no longer driving the converter and front pump. This usually results in no motion at all since the trans cannot engage due to lack of hydraulic pressure. It could also be an issue with the pump and/or the drive tangs on the converter that engage the pump. If those have been damaged they could be slipping intermittently and causing the issue. Burned fluid means something is slipping. I think an overhaul is in your future.

If I had to guess and only a guess I'd say its the front clutch pack. Fluid smelling bad like burnt smell its a toasty clutch pack. Were there any metal shavings in the fluid?

No metal shavings. Hooked up clear tubing to tranny cooler. Plenty pumped out but none would get sucked in from the bottle with new fliud. Nearly got the tranny out. Think I'm going to take the TC to US Trans and torque converter services in Littleton and have it rebuilt

Doing some post-Moab catch up here in the forums. Any update on this issue? If it is worth anything I 2nd Justin's armchair diagnosis. How many miles are on this tranny?
