I would buy that LJ but not doing right hand drive. It is literally brand new with 39K miles.

In an ideal world a BJ74 would be my weekend toy. I don't think I could DD a RHD, and right now I don't have $18K for a weekend toy, so

But hey, in a couple years the HDJ8* will be importable into the US, and if you could score a clean one from Panama it will be LHD!

39K miles might still be enough to find a blown head gasket and/or a cracked head in that engine

It's an 80 with the big 6 turbo diesel 1HDT.

As far as RHD, I don't really care. I would be far more worried about finding a no rust, mechanically sound, truck. That's FAR the biggest deal when shopping. Most of those later trucks are set up pretty well to Mr. Potatohead back to LHD without too much trouble. You can see all the firewall bosses for the brake booster in that engine shot. You would need a new steering box, and a new dash & a/c box, but beyond that, I believe most of it bolts up either way. Some exporters even sell kits. http://www.japan-partner.com/LHD-conversion.php

You got a few more years to wait for that one to be import-legal, like 20

There is an HZJ80/81 which uses the 1HZ in an 80...
HDJ8* could be either HDJ80 or HDJ81, not sure of the difference exactly? Maybe the 81 was the JDM-only model, or maybe it designates the 1HD-FTE vs. the 1HD-FT? Or maybe the 1HD-FTE was never used in an 80, only in the 100? I think I used to know but forgot

Hey, Venezuela produced the 80 until 2008, I wonder if they had LHD 1HD series engines?

HDJ81 is JDM, HDJ80 all other markets worldwide to my understanding.

I need a HDJ80/1 to drive until a VDJ76 VX Wagon is a legal import.

The pic Chris posted above looks like a gaser 76. He can have that.

BJ44s were JDM only I believe. You could have Kraig's 44's brother!
