Default 1971 Fj40

I’m listing this soon-to-be-yours 1971 Land Cruiser FJ40 for $9,000. You got questions, PM me. You want to buy it, call me. Depending upon the weather and your mood, this FJ40 has an extensive wardrobe selection that is guaranteed to be a conversation starter wherever you take it.

Dead of Winter - Hardtop with dual heaters

Height of Summer - No top with tube doors

The rest of the time; SOR Extreme Plus Summer Top or Paki Top

Purchased in December of 2007 and towed home behind my 100 series, this truck has been serviced and used on a regular basis. I bought this truck to learn more about working on cars and to have cool vehicle for me and my boys to drive. This FJ40 has been seriously upgraded and improved so that it is dependable and fun to drive. Most of the work has been documented on the Rising Sun 4X4 Club in the General Tech sub-forum - just do an advanced search for all threads started by RicardoJM for details - ignore the threads where I was working on someone else’s rig.

In addition to the wardrobe components above, here is a list of the upgrades/improvements that have been done over the 6 years I've owned this FJ40 and are included in the sale...
  • Rebuilt F.5 Engine
  • 60 Series Big Cap electronic ignition
  • RicardoJM rebuilt carburetor - take your pick Aisan or Holley - both run great
  • H42 4 speed swap, including new clutch, pilot and TO bearings
  • Front Disk Brakes, 60 Series, including a full front axle service with new bearings
  • Rear Disk Brakes, monte carlo calipers
  • Mini Truck Power Steering conversion
  • ARB Rear Locker with ARB compressor
  • OEM Steelies and hub caps
  • BFG 33" tires, the spare has never hit the ground
  • Roundeyes headlights
  • Bullet Proof front bumper, with tow bar; comes in handy for giving other 40 owners a ride home when needed
  • Rustoleum Sail Blue paint; fades to a nice patina
  • Mazda 626 sport seats
  • Locking Tuffy Center Console with the radio slot
  • Blue Sea accessory fuse box
  • True shift on the fly vacuum actuated 4wd

Engine Accessories upgraded/replaced over the 6 years include;
  • New Battery
  • New Radiator
  • New Toyota reman gear reduction starter
  • Napa Water Pump
  • Napa Clutch Master
  • Napa Clutch slave
  • New Toyota thermostat
  • New Toyota voltage regulator
  • Rebuilt alternator
  • Ceramic coated Headers
  • New exhaust system and muffler
  • New windshield w/ Toyota gasket
  • 4Runner brake booster
  • T100 brake master
  • New Toyota ignition switch
  • New Toyota rear hatch lock
  • Garmin GPS V
  • Indoor/outdoor thermometer

Ok those last four are not really engine accessories, but that's where I decided to put them in that list.

What it needs:
  • Replacement of the t-case output seal (will need speedi sleeve as well)
  • Speedometer gear
  • Attention to cancer on rear sill and rockers.
  • Door weather stripping

Most of all, it needs a good home, preferably with an FJ40 enthusiast that will drive it and see that it gets out on every 40s Only run.

Literally, this is a pull the choke, pump twice, turn the key and drive FJ40. As a 1971 model, it is a Colorado collector plates eligible and emissions exempt. The upgrades really improve the driving experience and while keeping the cruiser "Toyota True" and "Toyota reliable".

At least who ever buys it will be getting a cruiser that's been well taken care of.

And to think this truck inspired my "Holiday Greeting" poem! A great truck for somebody here. Let's keep it in the RS family!

Steve is on the right track, for now I'm going to put a soft top on my Bronco and take it fishing.

My list of "project" vehicles is long and I'm sure the next thing will pop up. That said, I have to make room in the garage so that when the next thing pops up I'll be ready.

Super sorry to hear you're selling your 40 Ricardo! It's a great rig and one of my favorite 40's.

But I understand, as I have been on the fence about selling mine as well, for other reasons. I certainly wouldn't want to compete for buyers, and your rig is so well set up that it would be foolish for me to try to sell mine right now, so thanks for helping me decide to keep it a little longer.

Good luck with the sale. I think you're going to miss that rig and whoever buys it is going to be one happy 40 owner.
