Default Core returns?

I bought a couple items online (starter and water pump) and they don't seem to have any provision for returning them for core usage. I'm not as concerned about getting money back as I am about filling up the landfill with stuff that can be rebuilt for someone else who needs it as parts for these things get harder to find...

So, are there any local parts stores that will take/buy worn out parts? If not, what should I do with these things?

Thanks!

Your friendly recycling center would gladly take your parts. You may even get a little money for them.

I guess that's another bonus of buying OEM from the dealership. Usually a core and even good box to return them in.

Bring them to the Rising Sun swap meet in August, and give them away. Meet new friends, too! ;-)

Yeah, if you are buying new parts or non-core parts, don't just toss the old ones. At least keep them around in case someone needs to fix a cracked case or gear to rebuild theirs. I've also given cores to people to return when they buy something and they don't have a core to return, like when you change out a factory Denso 40A alternator for a GM CS105. A guy might want to keep his still good factory alternator as backup or in case he sells the truck, so you just shove whatever core you got sitting around in the box and most of the time the counter guy couldn't care less if it's not exactly the same thing.
