pre 76 is easy, nothing required. i'll be curious when it comes time to do you 78 to see if they just let you through too. hopefully. not that i have to worry, but i'll be sad for the folks that have had cp if they have to test now and aren't grandfathered in.

Just scrolled back and it doesn't appear that I reported that I got my 5 year renewal for my 78 non-USA FJ45 for April with no test required. I sent it in and got the papers and sticker back, all good until our esteemed legislators change the rulz again...

Just read the website again, apparently now there's some sort of 32-year rule and a mileage affidavit :

Still waiting with bated breath for my renewal card to see what they are going to want me to do.

I just went in and did this for my 78 40. I was not grandfathered in so fell in under part C above. I got an emission test every year before on my old tags but this year decided on trying to get the 5 year tags after watching three "newer" cars get tested while they struggled to get the hood open and then didn't understand why the couldn't just plug up to a computer at AirCare. I showed the DMV my registration, emissions test, and signed the 4000 mile/yr affidavit. The classic vehicle tags and 2020 stickers showed up about a week later. Five years of taxes and fees cost ~$200. My registration card did say emission test required but at least I don't have to worry about that now for 5 yrs.
