Default Another good reason to have a project

I picked up my project FJ40 because it is something I have always wanted to do. It is also turning out to be something my boys and I spend some time together with. So far they have not lost interest and my oldest is getting into taking on projects himself, as well as lending me a hand with most of the work I do on the truck.

Today the school schedule had a break from 2nd to 6th period and he arranged for a friend to come over and together they replaced the bushings on one of the rear set of leaf springs. I felt really good hearing his report of their work, what went smooth, what needed the BFH and I was a tinge sad that I didn't sneak away from work to get some pictures and video. I did snap this shot of the end result.

Last week he took on polishing up the wheels. I am surprised at how well they shined up. Saturday evening he came over to lend a hand with the engine pull at Timms and that was after spending the morning picking up seats, helping with bushing install and an afternoon of work at his job. On Sunday he gave me a hand with cleaning the seats and installing them as well replacing the fuel filter.

Family, School, athletics and work will continue to be the priorities above working on the cruiser, but I'm glad we have the project and am looking forward to the time we'll spend together on it.

Sounds like you got a really good kid(s) there! I remember spending a lot of time under the cars with my Dad when I was a kid - probably a lot of the reason I ended up being a car nut too.

Great stuff, Ricardo. do you have the November/December 07 issue of Toyota Trails? Rob (Max's dad) wrote a great story about building up Max's 40 together.. I'll bring you mine if not let me know.

Can't speak from your side, but my best memories are of me and my dad up to the elbows in grease. It started out as time alone with my pops. Now, its a major part of my life. Truly calms me down, and makes me happy.

I hope to share the same things with my children someday.

I spent many hours in engine bays and underneath cars with my Dad. And my 4-year-old already knows the names and locations of many hand tools. It's an essential skill of being a man, IMO.
