Default Upgrading to FJ60 or Mini Truck Steering Knuckles

Hi Guys,

After completing the Rubicon and seeing first hand how the small pattern knuckles on the FJ40 are vulnerable to breakage, I was wondering if anyone had a lead on where to purchase either FJ60 or Mini Truck steering knuckles. Is there a difference between the two with one being better than another? Thanks for the help.

FJ60 and minitruck should be the same, AFAIK.

keep in mind that fj60 uses a different taper on the steering arms. your tie rod won't fit

Thanks Ige. I have the 4x4 Labs steering arms so I should be okay except that I need to send them back and get the six bolt pattern.

so you're upgrading to aftermarket six bolt knuckles, not mini or 60 series?

4x4 labs arms that fit early knuckles won't fit mini truck/late 40/60series knuckles...wrong bolt pattern

Sorry for the confusion. I am replacing the early FJ40 knuckles with mini truck knuckles and upgrading the steering arms, tie rod, drag link etc. from 4x4 Labs.

ok, that makes more sense. you won't be able to reuse your 4x4 labs stuff on the mini/60 knuckles since the bolt pattern is wider on the new knuckles, but you should be able to sell them for a little cash to help fund new ones. you can order the new ones to fit your existing tre's.

If you're staying stock, with the large pattern steering knuckles, will the mini-truck arms work with the LC tie rod ends?

I have the 4x4 Labs steering set up like you have, upgraded tre, drag link and tie rod. I was going to swap out my small pattern 4x4 Labs steering arms with the large pattern (6) stud set. There is an additional piece that will need to be welded onto the new mini truck knuckle to accept the (2) extra studs. After talking with Brian at 4x4 Labs, I think everything should work.
